Discussion:
MOSS Search Scopes - scope to search one doc library

I have a site the contains a single document library, and I would like to
create a Search Scope that allows a search of only that document library.

I thought I could set up the Scope Rules to do Property Queries and add
property restrictions on Site or SiteName to point to the specific site, and
perhaps the "contentclass" to specify a document library (although not 100%
necessary).

However, I cannot determine what should be specified for the value (after
the =) for Site or SiteName. I tried putting the title of the site and the
URL of the site for these properties, but it did not find anything in the
crawl. What should be specified for these fields?

Also, any idea what can be specified for "contentclass"?

If it's that important, I would create a separate content source for that
document library and then set the scope to that content source. That would
be the easiest way to do this from a scoping perspective.

That won't work - if I try to create another content source that points just
to that site, it tells me "The start address
http://myserver/SiteDirectory/mytestsite" already exists in this or another
content source.

In other words, since that site is already crawled as part of the normal
site crawl, MOSS will not allow me to create another content source that
also crawls that site.

I find it hard to believe (well, maybe not now that I think about it) that
there is no documentation on setting up Scopes that use a Property Query -
other than saying "specify a value". What value??? They don't tell you
what they want for the values! Useless!

JJ, consider Coveo Enterprise Search for SharePoint, which offers
outstanding relevance, security out of the box, and many many other high
value features and capabilities...including a scope selector that the user
can select which automatically adjusts scope based on where your search is
initiated from. The Coveo admin can preset this scope selector, or enforce
it on everyone. Coveo takes under 30 minutes to try out, via evaluation
software on the public Coveo site.

I agree, and I'm having this same issue now. Did you find any
guidelines?
